Studio Bira is located in Genoa's Design Quarter in the oldest part of the city, just a stone's throw from San Lorenzo Cathedral and the Old Port.
Studio Bira is a place for the design and practice of ceramic art, a place inhabited by the works of the artist, which fill a gallery created in the foundations of the building. The Works, rather than being mere ornaments, plates and cups, seem rather to be stone creatures of a world preceding ours, born from the manipulation of earth with water and fire. They live their own lives, harmonising with each other and yet underlining their own uniqueness.
Thus, Studio/Forge Biraghi reflects an original sensibility, an ideal coming together of East and West, deriving from the Artist's long experience with Japan, above all in its ethical/aesthetic and spiritual sense.
The studio is spread over two floors: the first, adjacent to the street, houses the creative space, while the second, located underground, features a gallery dedicated to exhibition space.
The studio is situated in one of the oldest buildings in the Historic Centre (Palazzo Saluzzo), a magnificent setting belonging to a different medieval era, yet fitting perfectly into an aesthetic made of empty spaces, zen geometries supported by brushstrokes of Indian ink resembling the slashes of a Japanese sword.
