The gesture of the hand leaves an imprint on the surface, the trace of a perception, a desire, a vision. The material begins to interact with the spontaneous gesture and takes over, giving life to the collections of Studio Bira.
Ligurian by adoption, after studying art at Genoa's Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti, I spent over ten years in the world of antiques and restoration, experiences which brought me into contact with beauty and the world of craftsmanship.
Studio Bira is located in Genoa's Design Quarter in the oldest part of the city, just a stone's throw from San Lorenzo Cathedral and the Old Port. Studio Bira is a place for the design and practice of ceramic art, a place inhabited by the works of the artist, which fill a gallery created in the foundations of the building.
Elegance, harmony, uniqueness, diversity – all key words that perfectly reflect my vision and what I would like to express with my art and which take concrete form in a gallery of unique pieces, which is constantly evolving.
The creative process is a profound personal journey which takes shape through exploration, intuition and continuous evolution. There is the desire to express something unique, to leave a tangible mark, born from one's personal way of feeling the world. It's a journey which is never linear; it can be made of highs and lows, moments of extreme distress and of pure inspiration. It starts with a spark, a dream, an idea, an intuition. At that point, there is nothing for it but to set to work, experimenting and letting oneslf be guided by the material. There are times when doubts and uncertainties arise and the vision seems to fade, but one goes on, aware that one may have to start all over again.
